The aforementioned port is a FlexiJack, which means it can be used as either line in or mic jack. I switched to using only headphones and external DAC+AMP a long time ago, so I only kept the sound card for the mic, because it's significantly better than the onboard solutions I had. This probably isn't a widespread issue since it comes down to an unusual use case: using only the microphone input of the sound card. There are numerous threads online with people having driver issues and similar symptoms, but I didn't see this mentioned anywhere. This post is about recent frustrations with my old SB X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ity (EMU20K2) PCIe sound card. TL DR The creative audio control panel won't open until the output device is enabled in windows sound settings
